By the end of his reign, the caliphate had been reunified, Arabic had become the dominant language of administration in much of the empire, new coinage announced caliphal sovereignty, and the Umayyad state had regained the coherence necessary for expansion.He matters in a study of wealth and power because he shows how imperial recovery depends on controlling revenue, military force, and symbols of legitimacy at the same time. Abd al-Malik did not merely win battles. He changed the operating language, monetary presentation, and institutional center of power.
